West Coast Eats

I am a little late on this post but honestly I’d rather be late than just.. never. So here are the spots and my reviews on the places that I ate at while I was in California this past Spring!

One of the restaurants on my list was Mr. Fries Man. It is a black owned Gourmet French Fry restuarant in L.A. I’ve been following them on Instagram for quite some time so I am not sure how I came across their page. The owner, Craig, was super nice and super chill. The resturant was clean. The customer service was very respectable and the prices were spot on. I ordered the Lemon Garlic Shrimp and Snow Crab fries and my friend Tatty ordered the Chicken Bacon Parmesan. Craig told us about theses sauces that can be paired with the fries and our minds were BLOWN. They were so good! If you live out in California, take that 3 hour drive, since it takes 3 hours to get anywhere out there, and try them out! Here’s their Instagram! They stay with daily specials as well! https://instagram.com/mr_fries_man?igshid=604rodf6psh4

My friend Tatty took me to this Soul Food restaurant called Chef Marilyn’s and it was bomb! So bomb and so inexpensive. You were charged per piece of fried chicken, and the sides were inexpensive as well. I’m not big on fried chicken in flour, but damnit! What a good ass time! I ordered fried chicken with mac and cheese, yams and cabbage with cornbread. Good as hell! She doesn’t have an Instagram but you can definitely Google her!

I just had to make my way to Bree’s Cakes. She’s my Baker Crush and inspiration and I was not leaving L.A until I bought something up out of that display case. I bought a Strawberry Crunch cupcakes, a Vanilla Funfetti cupcake, a Reeses cookie, Snickers cookie and a Twix cookie. The size of her cupcakes matched her price. And honestly made me realize that my cupcakes are minis in comparison. The cupcakes were really good a tad denser than what I’m used to but very good nonetheless. The cupcakes weren’t too sweet and the buttercream frosting was not overbearing. I waited until I got back home to Buffalo to eat the cookies, and warmed those lil babies up and ate them with some almond milk. I was not disappointed and was instead inspired even more. My last day on the west coast, I went to this authentic taco spot called El Dorodo Express. I kept making the joke that it was the same taco joint that Craig’s dad went to in Next Friday when he got the call that Craig was in trouble and to come quick. It wasn’t but I still think it was. Anyways, I got the shrimp tacos with a side of chips and queso. The shrimp was fried which kind of threw me off but everything was so fresh and good! Even the rice was good! And they were so nice. It was a cute family ran taco place. Check out their Instagram! https://instagram.com/el_dorado_express?igshid=1f0sno6f341hx

I was not able to get photos, but my first night in Cali, my friend took me to King Tacos were I had shrimp tacos and chicken tostados. I ate my food too damn fast and was nauseous as hell afterwards but it was so good!
